AUSTRALIAN FUNGI ILLUSTRATED
This is an excellent text on Australian Fungi. There are detailed coloured photos of each fungi .
The text contains the common and botanical name for each fungi.
Some of the entries have been photographed at different times of the year and the photo includes the month when the photos have been taken. Each photo has a scale of photo size to actual size.
The fungi types are grouped together with a description of their structure.
There is one outstanding omission from the text the author does not state whether the fungi described and photographed are edible or toxic. I have noticed that over recent years several fungi books have omitted or in the case of a reprint removed the text related to whether the fungi is edible or toxic.
There are a number of workshops offered within the Macedon Ranges on Fungi identification and I would highly recommend if you wish to collect and eat fungi to attend one of these courses first. Your health and well being is far more important than a few free mushrooms. The author reminds us that there are “Regulations governing the collection of fungus fruit bodies”
