Martin Booth was born in Lancashire but brought up in Hong Kong and Kenya. He describes himself as an inveterate traveller, writing on travel and conservation topics for several newspapers and magazines. His other writing interests include poetry, literary criticism and film and TV scripts - he was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1998. Martin lives in Somerset.
