James Riordan's first children's novel Sweet Clarinet was nominated for the Whitbread Prize in 1998 and won the NASEN award in 1999, while his second novel The Prisoner, received a Carnegie Award nomination in 2000. His first book for Frances Lincoln was The Coming of Night, followed by The Twelve Labours of Hercules which won the UK Reading Association Award 1998. Jason Cockcroft's illustrations for A Pilgrim's Progress won the Blue Peter Children's Award in 2000. He also did the cover illustration for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Bloomsbury). The Horse Girl, written by Miriam Moss was his first book for Frances Lincoln.
